Ubisoft is charting an ambitious course for Skull and Bones Year 2, aiming to make it the most expansive year yet for the pirate multiplayer game. The upcoming year will feature significant content updates including new gameplay modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat, a feature fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the next year of updates. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory, set for this fall, that promises to bring the long-awaited land combat feature. Players will finally be able to take the fight away from the sea, engaging in swordfights and using firearms on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, which will involve players exploring sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what's to come, although more details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat stands out as the most significant addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a wealth of other content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will introduce the Kraken, Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If these updates sound appealing, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has not yet been announced.

Skull and Bones was released on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not disclosed specific sales figures, they did mention that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
