Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made project that brings the world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion into the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. This monumental task, undertaken by a dedicated team of volunteer developers, represents a AAA-scale modding effort that has consumed years of passionate work.
In a recent developer update stream, the Skyblivion team reaffirmed their commitment to meeting the 2025 deadline, expressing optimism about completing the project with the continued support of their community. "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation," they stated.

Describing Skyblivion merely as a one-to-one remake doesn't do justice to the extensive enhancements the developers are implementing. Beyond a simple visual upgrade, the team is revamping various aspects of the original game. This includes ensuring that unique items truly stand out and enhancing the challenge of existing bosses, such as the notorious Mannimarco. The team showcased the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest in their livestream, highlighting the stunning new visuals of the painted world.
The project's significance is further heightened by rumors of an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, alleged details about an Oblivion remake emerged, suggesting potential changes to combat and other elements. Microsoft, however, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Additionally, in 2023, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial inadvertently revealed mentions of an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game, which has since been released, and a Fallout 3 remaster, which remains unconfirmed.
Given the possibility of an official Oblivion relaunch by Microsoft and Bethesda, the future of Skyblivion could be uncertain. Bethesda's games have a rich history of modding support, from classic titles to the latest releases like Starfield. Fans hope that Skyblivion will not face the same challenges as the Fallout London mod, which encountered issues just before its planned release.
