Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This change, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects a shift in player preference towards PS5 games. The PlayStation Blog post stated that PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and the Game Catalog. However, already acquired titles remain accessible, and Games Catalog entries will be playable until their scheduled removal.
Sony assures subscribers that other PlayStation Plus benefits, such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves, will continue. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony notes a significant player migration to the PS5 platform. This shift in player base towards PS5 titles informed the decision.
The future placement of PS4 games within the PS Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed. Further announcements are expected closer to the implementation date.
