The boys are back in town — and by the boys, we're talking about Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman. South Park has officially announced the return of Season 27, and it seems our favorite Colorado crew will be tackling the state of things in their own unique, barely managing way.
The beloved animated series released a new trailer to announce the upcoming season, cleverly tricking the audience into thinking it was a dramatic sneak peek at a new drama. The trailer's intense editing and music created an ominous atmosphere... until Randy, Stan's dad, and his sister Shelley appeared on-screen. Randy asks Shelley if she’s been taking drugs, suggesting, "Because I think it could really help you," as they sit on her bed with a Wicked movie poster in the background.
After the humorous gag, the trailer returns to showcasing intense action, hinting at several big and topical moments from the season. These include multiple plane crashes, the Statue of Liberty being toppled, a P. Diddy appearance, and a war with Canada — a plot twist that long-time fans or those who have seen the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut might have anticipated.
The teaser also confirms that Season 27 will premiere on July 9, 2025, on Comedy Central, more than two years after Season 26 concluded. Since then, the series has released three specials: South Park: Joining the Panderverse and South Park (Not Suitable For Children) in 2023, followed by South Park: The End of Obesity in 2024.
South Park celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, marking a quarter-century since its debut on Comedy Central in 1997, where it quickly garnered widespread acclaim.
