Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film.
Isaac's past comments on returning to the franchise have been mixed. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for financial reasons, he later shifted his stance in 2022, telling Variety he was "open to anything."
His past criticisms of Disney, particularly their rejection of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), are well-documented. Boyega also voiced negative experiences with Disney and the franchise but has since expressed openness to future roles.
This renewed speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, and the inclusion of Poe, completing the Sequel Trilogy's main trio, seems a logical step.
However, definitive answers may remain elusive for some time. Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars films have pushed back the potential release of the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, to a tentative December 17, 2027, at the earliest. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer clues, fans face a prolonged wait for concrete news.
