Firaxis Games has unveiled a virtual reality adaptation of the recently launched Civilization VII.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR marks the franchise's first venture into VR, launching exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S in Spring 2025.

Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), this VR title promises a unique experience.

Here's the official description:

Civilization VII - VR brings the world of Civilization to life like never before. The game unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for intricate details or zoom out for a grand overview. Players interact directly with world leaders, forging alliances or declaring war across the ages.

The game supports both immersive VR and mixed reality modes, seamlessly switching between them. VR places players in a museum overlooking a personalized vista, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to the player's physical space. A dedicated Archives room displays gameplay achievements in both modes. Online multiplayer supports up to four players on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available through early access, have received mixed player feedback on Steam, citing UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features.

Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, promising UI improvements, cooperative team play in multiplayer, expanded map types, and other enhancements.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative reviews but expressed confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game with more playtime, describing early performance as "very encouraging."
