Following a strong Xbox Developer Direct launch for 2025, Microsoft and its first-party studios are looking promising. But which Xbox game franchises excite you the most? Which provided unparalleled enjoyment during the Xbox 360 era? Or, if you're new to Xbox, which titles are you most anticipating on other platforms like PlayStation, given Microsoft's apparent commitment to broader library accessibility?
There's a wealth of legendary franchises to choose from (especially considering Microsoft's acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard). This tier list encompasses any series associated with Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard, provided it features more than one entry – apologies to MachineGames and Indiana Jones! A sequel would certainly change that. Remember, this isn't an exhaustive list of every Xbox game series, but it aims to represent current relevance and historical significance.
Here's my personal tier list, reflecting my personal enjoyment over the years:
Doom easily earns an S-tier ranking for me; the recent entries are among my favorite first-person shooters, and Doom: The Dark Ages suggests id Software is maintaining its high standards. Forza Horizon also secures an S-tier spot, arguably the best racing games I've played, surpassing even Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge. Placing Halo in A-tier might raise eyebrows. While Halo 2 and 3 boast exceptional campaigns, I can't overlook recent inconsistencies. Personally, I'm more of a Fallout fan than an Elder Scrolls enthusiast – power armor over dragons, any day!
Disagree? Believe Gears of War reigns supreme? A staunch defender of Fuzion Frenzy? Create your own tier list below, comparing your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
