Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases means our typically quiet Wednesday is anything but – and that's a welcome change! We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and our usual sales updates. Let's dive in!

Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers a Bounty of Games

The decision to present two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a plethora of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new entries in the Atelier and Rune Factory franchises, and much more. I recommend watching the video; even a quick skim will reveal many appealing titles for diverse gaming preferences.

Select New Releases

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A third Castlevania compilation emerged unexpectedly from the Direct. This collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. This release showcases exceptional emulation and a wealth of desirable features, making it an incredible value.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired, fast-paced platformer makes its Switch debut as a surprise release. Players must navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this a must-have, but even those without a strong Wario preference should consider it if they enjoy platforming challenges. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

Another unexpected release. It's Wednesday, and without these surprises, we'd have little to report. Goat Simulator 3 continues the series' chaotic gameplay. While performance on the Switch remains unverified, it's worth noting that more powerful systems have experienced occasional difficulties. Proceed with caution, though the potential for poor performance might ironically enhance the game's inherent absurdity. Ultimately, it's a question of whether the appeal of silly goats in an open world outweighs the risk of technical issues.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's tempting to criticize EA for missing an opportunity, their failure to bring PopCap games to Switch feels like a significant oversight. For Peggle enthusiasts, Peglin is a highly recommended alternative. Available on mobile for some time, this title blends Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A review will follow shortly.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's latest shop simulation game incorporates the popular Doraemon franchise. The game retains the familiar Kairosoft formula but adds a recognizable license, even including cameos from the manga artist's other works. A charming addition to the genre.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Supporting up to eight players locally or online, this cooperative puzzle game thrives on larger groups. The puzzle stages demand strategic thinking and teamwork. While a solid sequel, it's unlikely to attract many newcomers due to its limited departure from the original.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple but enjoyable for its price point.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game starring a penguin. One hundred levels of crate-pushing action.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Utilizing character abilities and drawing mechanics, players can solve puzzles cooperatively with up to four players locally or online.
