Ygwulf in Avowed: Kill or Spare?

In the opening scenes of *Avowed*’s main quest, the Envoy suffers a tragic assassination. As you delve into solving this murder mystery, you'll uncover that Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels, is your killer. The rebels fiercely oppose Aedyr's presence in the area, making the Envoy a prime target. After some detective work with Kai and Marius in Paradis during the "Untimely End" quest, you'll track Ygwulf to his underground hideout. Be prepared for combat and platforming challenges; stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear. Within the dungeon, you may discover documents that shed light on Ygwulf’s true intentions and his remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions that the Gods commanded him to kill the Envoy, Ygwulf later feels genuine regret. When you confront him, he expresses his apologies and readiness to face justice.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Opting for Ygwulf to turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is not advisable. He would face the harsh judgment of Inquisitor Lödwyn, leading to a painful death without yielding substantial rewards. Instead, sparing Ygwulf grants you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as tokens of his gratitude. Though these resources are modest, they can be useful. However, despite your mercy, Ygwulf's fate is sealed, and he will meet his end later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given Ygwulf's inevitable demise, choosing to attack him directly is the most beneficial option. This leads to a boss fight that serves as excellent practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf rewards you with the best loot among the choices. You can loot his body for currency, Adra, and the unique Blackwing armor set. This armor not only boasts a stylish appearance but also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, aiding in evasion and tactical positioning.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Although Ygwulf appears early in the game, his fate subtly influences *Avowed*'s ending. After the final gameplay section, the game's conclusion features art and narration that illustrate how your choices have shaped Eora and the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and pacify the Living Lands, Ygwulf's death will radicalize the Paradisan Rebellion, ensuring their continued violent resistance even after the credits roll.
