The rich tapestry of traditional Minangkabau arts includes a variety of performances such as tambua tansa, piriang dance, piriang dance on broken glass, randai, saluang, talempong, rice stem pupuik, and the art of sprouts. Among these, tambua tansa holds a special place in the hearts of the people, often featured at both community celebrations and official government events.

Tambua tansa has flourished across the nagari in Agam Regency, with particularly vibrant growth in the Lake Maninjau interlocking area and Lubuk Basung District. The tansa, a smaller version of the tambua, is played using two special rattan blades and serves as the conductor for the tambua musicians. The dancer, who leads the tambua group, decides the type of song or rhythm to be performed.

Tambua instruments are crafted from perforated wood staples and come in various sizes. The larger ones, with diameters ranging from 50 to 60 cm, are known as Tambadang Gadang, while the smaller ones, with diameters of 25 to 30 cm, are called Tambua Kaciak. A typical tambua group consists of 6 to 12 tambua.

Tambua tansa plays a crucial role in community gatherings, such as during gorongroyong road construction or the building of other public facilities. The group or nagari leader often performs tambua tansa at the site of communal work in the morning, its resounding beats summoning participants to the location promptly. As the work progresses, the tambua tansa continues to play, maintaining an energetic rhythm accompanied by the sound of rice stem pupuik and the cheers of the workers, helping to alleviate feelings of fatigue and the heat of the sun.

In the context of marriage celebrations, tambua tansa is essential for creating a lively atmosphere, ensuring the event is anything but dull. It is also used to welcome distinguished guests during official visits to the nagari, such as the regent, deputy regent, police chief, governor, and camat, among others.
