Krafton's decision to rebrand Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons marks a significant move to distance themselves from Ironmace Studios and their ongoing legal disputes with Nexon. This rebranding primarily affects the game's name and likely some elements specific to Dungeons & Dragons, while the core gameplay mechanics remain unchanged.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ironmace Studios, founded by former Nexon employees, is currently facing allegations from Nexon of using trade secrets to develop Dark and Darker. The legal battle continues, and as we previously reported in February, there were indications that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a name change. With the new title Abyss of Dungeons, those predictions have now materialized.
No Difference
Fortunately, the name change does not extend to the core gameplay mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile had already introduced significant changes, such as a third-person perspective and other modifications, but fans can rest assured that there won't be a complete overhaul.
While this development might disappoint some fans of Ironmace, there's hope that the studio's legal battles will resolve soon. In the meantime, enthusiasts can look forward to Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC release of Dark and Darker. An upcoming soft launch is scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
