Modders are diligently developing an ambitious expansion that will introduce Mexico to the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Titled Nuevo Paraíso — The Forgotten Frontier, this massive expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2 is described by its creators as a "completely rebuilt and enhanced recreation of the Mexican territory from the original Red Dead Redemption." A recently released work-in-progress trailer, shared by @videotechuk_ on X/Twitter, has already accumulated over 50,000 views on YouTube.

"Completely redesigned with incredible attention to detail while honoring the visual style of both games," the development team explained. Nuevo Paraíso "meticulously" rebuilds every town, settlement, and camp to "capture the authentic essence of Mexico, featuring region-specific vegetation, well-maintained roads and trails, new points of interest, and immersive landscapes populated by inhabitants going about their daily routines."
"Military units patrol the borders, while secrets and remnants of the past are hidden in some locations," the description hints. "Uncover new mysteries, engaging side quests, and unique destinations that expand the game world without compromising its core identity. Every element has been thoughtfully crafted to match Red Dead Redemption 2's distinctive atmosphere, lighting, and tone, delivering a seamless and authentic experience that remains true to the original canon."
Nuevo Paraíso — The Forgotten Frontier is currently accessible in early access form via Nexus Mods. While still in development, the creators confirmed players can explore "new areas to discover, refined gameplay mechanics, and a fully reimagined world" that enables them to "return to Mexico and experience the region as it was in 1907."
No official release date has been announced yet, but the team encouraged interested players to "stay tuned for further updates as you prepare for this major expansion, which is considered a full-fledged DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2."
Following recent reports that GTA 6 has experienced another delay, Rockstar confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has become the fourth highest-selling video game in history. According to publisher Take-Two's investor call last week (November 6), the sequel has sold more than 79 million copies — making it the "top-selling title in the U.S. over the past seven years based on revenue" — bringing the series' total sales to 106 million. Despite this success, there's still no news regarding a next-generation upgrade.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is now universally acclaimed as one of the greatest video games ever created. Our assessment aligned with this consensus, with IGN's review awarding a perfect 10/10 score. "Red Dead Redemption 2 represents gaming excellence; a masterfully crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era," we stated in our original evaluation.
