The latest addition to Ubisoft's celebrated series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, transports players to 16th-century Japan, marking the 14th installment in the core Assassin’s Creed lineup. Since its inception in 2007 with Desmond Miles' journey as Altaïr, the franchise has evolved significantly, and now features protagonists Naoe and Yasuke in its latest adventure.

In an effort to gauge where Assassin’s Creed Shadows stands among its predecessors, I’ve crafted a personal tier list based on enjoyment, spotlighting the mainline entries of the series. This excludes mobile games, side-scrollers, VR experiences, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

Topping my S-tier is Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, cherished for its seamless blend of island exploration, exhilarating ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters. It's joined by Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla earns its spot thanks to its engaging Viking-themed combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. It's accompanied by Unity, whose detailed depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even after a decade.
