Battlefield 6 producer Jeremy Chubb has revealed that the fan-favorite Battlefield: Bad Company 2 served as a significant inspiration for the upcoming installment of the shooter franchise.
In a discussion with PC Gamer, Chubb highlighted Bad Company 2 as a benchmark of excellence within the Battlefield legacy, acknowledging that the previous entry, Battlefield 2042, felt like it was missing some of the signature destructive elements the series is known for.
"When you look for examples of excellence in our legacy, that's where Bad Company 2 stands out," Chubb explained. "That game achieved an exceptional level of fidelity and delivered an intimately destructive experience. Whether it was blasting through a single wall, collapsing part of a structure, or leveling entire buildings, the destruction felt comprehensive and central to the game’s identity.
"We recognized that this aspect was somewhat absent from our last release, and we were determined to bring it back."
For those excited to see how it turns out, the wait won’t be long. An open beta begins on August 7, running for 48 hours. Additional 48-hour test phases will follow on August 9 and August 14.
As we noted in IGN's Battlefield 6 preview, "Battlefield 6 looks to the series' most celebrated eras, blending elements from titles like Battlefield 3 and 4. But is this return to past successes actually exciting? From reviving the core class system—Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon—to questioning whether classic modes like 64-player Conquest still hold up, the game aims to reconnect with its roots." Continue reading to learn why we believe BF6 represents a "safe yet explosive step back into the shooter’s history."
First announced back in 2021, Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S. Unfortunately, EA currently has no plans to release Battlefield 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 2042, the community appears largely impressed with what has been shown so far. For a while, EA even refrained from removing leaked assets.
We also recently glimpsed the upcoming battle royale mode, which, based on earlier leaks, is set in California and features insertion via CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The destructive ring is said to be composed of a substance called "NXC." Although rumors suggested a higher price, Battlefield 6 will not cost $80, though it may incorporate skill-based matchmaking.
