Discover the latest on Civilization 7 as the team shifts focus to enhance the player experience through quality-of-life improvements, delaying the game's first in-game event. Dive into what's planned for the next update and what the future holds for this beloved strategy game.
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is prioritizing essential quality-of-life enhancements over its eagerly anticipated first in-game event. Firaxis Games shared this update on February 28, 2025, alongside a Development Roadmap that outlines the forthcoming changes for Civ 7.
Scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, Update 1.1.0 will roll out across PC and consoles, with a separate timeline for Nintendo Switch. Originally set to feature the "Natural Wonder Battle" event, Firaxis announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, we've decided to postpone events to a later update. This allows us more time to focus on quality-of-life improvements for our global player base. We'll provide more details on the first in-game event as soon as we're ready."
Since its early access phase, the game has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism directed at its user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games has stated, "We are aware of and actively addressing feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to improvement, saying, "We're continuously working to enhance Civilization 7 and value your feedback immensely."
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 is geared towards responding to community suggestions and feedback. While detailed patch notes will be released at launch, Firaxis Games has previewed what players can anticipate.
Players will have the opportunity to explore a new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, at no additional cost. The update will also introduce much-needed UI adjustments, directly addressing player concerns. Moreover, significant changes are planned for the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, with AI leaders now more adept at achieving a Cultural Victory.
Coinciding with Update 1.1.0, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Firaxis explained, "Players who own either of these editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will automatically receive this content with Update 1.1.0."
The journey of enhancing Civilization 7 continues with the next major update scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date may be subject to change. This update will further refine the game’s UI, as Firaxis states, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface remain a top priority. The March 25 updates are just the beginning of a comprehensive plan to enhance the UI over the coming months."
Looking beyond the March updates, Civilization 7 is set to receive ongoing enhancements and refinements. This includes introducing a "one more turn" feature to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, implementing auto-explore, adding new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), improving multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis Games elaborated, "We're currently evaluating the work required to bring these priorities to the game as quickly as possible. Some updates may arrive as early as April (subject to change), while others will require more time for development, testing, and deployment. As with any development process, plans can evolve, and we'll keep you updated in the weeks and months ahead as our plans become more concrete. We appreciate your ongoing patience and support!"
