Cosmo Jarvis Returns for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which triumphed with 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Additionally, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead role and signed on for the second season last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the role of executive producer. Having produced the first season, Sanada's new position underscores his continued commitment to the series. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the original series was filmed.

FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) battled for his life as his adversaries within the Council of Regents coalesced against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, stranded in a local village, introduced English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), who shared crucial strategic insights with Toranaga, ultimately shifting the balance of power in his favor and securing victory in a pivotal civil war.

"Set a decade after the events of the first season, the second part of Shōgun continues the saga of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply interconnected."

While fans may have to wait until the end of 2026 for new episodes, the anticipation for this exceptional series only continues to grow.
