Elden Ring Nightreign offers exceptional loot for Nightfarers during their quest to defeat the Nightlords. But how powerful can these items become? One player's experiment went viral after discovering the limits—and pitfalls—of enhancing a rare weapon into the ultimate Nightlord-slaying tool, only to watch its power collapse spectacularly.

Japanese YouTuber mintius (via Automaton Media) triggered this phenomenon by obtaining the Marais Executioner Sword, a weapon that grows stronger with each enemy slain—but typically within controlled parameters.

Given Nightreign’s encroaching storm and time constraints, this weapon’s scaling normally remains in check. However, mintius exploited optimal enemy spawns to push its limits far beyond expectations.

Per Automaton’s translation, mintius spent roughly an hour slaying Wormface mobs with the Executioner Sword. Their damage peaked at 9,999 after defeating 725 enemies, with a staggering final displayed attack value of 63,375. But upon slaying the 727th enemy, the sword abruptly dealt zero damage, leading to their untimely demise.

The likely explanation? An integer overflow—similar to the infamous Civilization "Nuclear Gandhi" glitch—where exceeding the damage cap caused the value to loop back to minimal effectiveness.

Mintius plans further tests to explore the sword’s true thresholds, including experimenting with plunging attacks on Flame Chariots to gauge its maximum potential. The results promise to be chaotic—if not downright catastrophic.

For most Nightreign adventurers, let this serve as a warning: moderation is key when wielding the Marais Executioner Sword. It’s formidable, but pushing it to the absolute limit carries consequences.
