GOG has introduced its newest initiative: one-click mod installation.

The PC platform explained that since installing mods can be time-consuming, the One-Click Mods project allows players to browse, install, and enjoy mods more quickly and easily than before. To achieve this, GOG has gathered a handpicked collection of premium mods and integrated them directly with their corresponding games for a seamless installation experience.

Additionally, GOG emphasized that "mods are also vital for video game preservation," enabling community-created modifications to fix bugs, restore cut content like scenes, quests, and characters, and introduce fresh fan-made content.

Currently, the repository includes mods for Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete, Doom 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and Fallout 4. For Heroes of Might and Magic 3, players receive an expansion that introduces new factions, campaigns, creatures, artifacts, and various quality-of-life upgrades, including a functional multiplayer lobby. For Fallout 4, the offering features Fallout: London, a standalone story set in the UK during the Fallout 4 apocalypse, available with a single click.

For Doom 3, the Phobos mod serves as a prequel to the original game, offering a narrative-driven, classic FPS adventure with modern improvements. For Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, the unofficial patch resolves many bugs that the original developers left unfixed, while also restoring and enhancing cut content such as quests, levels, characters, and dialogue.

But that's not all: Skyblivion, the highly anticipated mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, is also coming to GOG later this year and will be part of the One-Click Mods project.

Skyblivion is a volunteer-driven project by the TESRenewal modding group, aiming to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within Skyrim: Special Edition. Bethesda has endorsed the project, even after releasing its own The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in April. In fact, Bethesda gifted Oblivion Remastered keys to the entire Skyblivion modding team.

This initiative is the latest in a series of GOG projects focused on game preservation. Last year, GOG launched a preservation program to ensure the long-term availability of titles like Resident Evil, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Witcher 2. This effort responds to growing concerns among developers and players that the shift toward online and digital-only games could lead to titles becoming completely unavailable, as seen with The Crew, which Ubisoft delisted and shut down in March 2024.
