Home > News > Hollow Knight: Silksong Developer Responds to Release Date Confusion, Promises Launch 'Before Holiday,' Not Tied to Xbox Handheld Arrival
The latest update regarding *Hollow Knight: Silksong* has brought some clarity—and a bit of relief—to fans eagerly awaiting the game’s release. During Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025, the title briefly appeared alongside ASUS' upcoming ROG Ally X handheld, sparking speculation that its launch might be tied to the new device. Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned that *Silksong* would be "available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year," fueling assumptions that it was being held for the handheld’s debut.
However, Team Cherry has since clarified the situation. In a statement posted on the game’s official Discord server, marketing manager Matthew “Leth” Griffin confirmed that *Silksong* is not waiting for the ROG Ally X launch and will arrive before the holiday season.
“I confirmed BEFORE Holiday,” Griffin wrote, further noting, “we are not tied to a console release.” When asked which holiday he meant, he confirmed it was Christmas—good news for those hoping to see the game released before the end of the year.
With the game reportedly set to appear in playable form at Melbourne’s national museum of screen culture starting September 18, many fans are now wondering if the game could drop even earlier than Christmas. While no exact date has been given, the presence of *Silksong* at a public exhibition hints that its release may be closer than ever.
Fans had hoped for more concrete details following the Xbox Games Showcase, especially after recent updates to the game’s Steam page suggested a possible imminent launch or even a surprise release. However, Microsoft opted to use its showcase slot for the delayed arrival of *Final Fantasy XVI*, leaving *Silksong* enthusiasts still waiting.
That said, with just six months until Christmas, the wait may finally be nearing its end. And for those who plan to play on the go, IGN has already tested the experience of playing *Silksong* on the upcoming ROG Ally X, so you can be ready whenever the handheld launches.
