Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won found a fresh perspective after engaging with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, sparking his interest in new project ideas. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Eurogamer interviewed Choi about the evolution of the Souls genre. His admiration for FromSoftware's work is evident in the creation of Lies of P.

Choi shared his impressions of the forthcoming Elden Ring title, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was incredibly refreshing and innovative. This experience reinforced my belief in their development prowess and their commitment to pushing creative boundaries. It inspired me to ensure that Overture delivers an exceptional experience."

He further revealed his openness to exploring multiplayer gaming, saying, "For our future projects, we're definitely open to considering all possibilities."

Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware titles, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are diverse. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I draw inspiration from a wide variety of games. This blend of different experiences and influences shapes the unique Lies of P experience. It's about combining diverse inspirations into something new and exciting for the fans of Lies of P."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content that the developers originally intended to include in the main game. He added, "Overture isn't just an add-on; it's intricately connected to the base game. Crafting this expansion felt like completing the Lies of P experience, which was both challenging and rewarding."

Overture serves as a prequel, taking players back to the haunting final days of Krat as they follow a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and concepts that were left out of the initial release due to development constraints. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, essentially completing the narrative arc.

He reflected, "At launch, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything we wanted. The support from our community post-launch encouraged us to deliver all that we had envisioned in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that Overture does not tie directly into the final cutscene of the base game. While the ending provided a glimpse into potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.

Choi assured fans, "When we're ready to share news or assets, you'll know we're fully prepared. Our commitment to quality remains our top priority amidst all pressures. That's a promise we stand by."
