Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is actively considering extending their Open Beta Test 2 by a full day in response to the PSN outage that left players unable to access online games, including the MH Wilds beta, for 24 hours. The outage began at 6 PM EST on February 7th and services were restored around 8 PM EST the following day, according to the official NA X (Twitter) support account.
As of now, the exact timing for the extension remains unannounced, but it's confirmed to be a 24-hour addition to compensate for the lost playtime. This could potentially occur anytime between the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, just before the game's official launch. Beta Test 2 Part 1 has already concluded, with Part 2 scheduled to start on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to resuming their adventures, perhaps even encountering the amusing low-poly bug that transforms the game's detailed characters into blocky, low-resolution versions.
Capcom has acknowledged that the beta test builds are outdated and not representative of the final game's quality, leading to various bugs and technical glitches. One such glitch is the notorious low-poly character bug, where textures fail to load properly, turning characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky, distorted figures.
Rather than frustration, the community has embraced this glitch, sharing humorous encounters on social media and even expressing hopes that MH Wilds might pay homage to its polygonal quirks in the future. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team expressed amusement at the players' enjoyment of the glitch but encouraged everyone to experience the game's full potential upon its official release later this month.
Monster Hunter Wilds marks the latest installment in the renowned Monster Hunter series and introduces an open-world setting known as the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of a Hunter tasked with exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. The much-anticipated action-RPG is slated for release on February 28th, 2025, across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation attributed the extensive outage to an "operational issue" and issued an apology via their NA X (Twitter) support account. As compensation, active PlayStation Plus members will receive an additional five days of service.
However, many fans expressed dissatisfaction with Sony's communication during the outage, recalling the panic and concern reminiscent of a similar incident in 2011. That year, a hacker attack compromised approximately 77 million PSN user accounts, leading to a 3.5-week service interruption from April 20th to May 14th. During that time, Sony was proactive in informing users about the situation and the need for a thorough investigation.
