It appears that some individuals have managed to obtain a Nintendo Switch 2 console ahead of its official release, despite Nintendo's efforts to prevent leaks. However, these early consoles are reportedly unusable without a mandatory day-one patch, and the initial video evidence was quickly removed due to a copyright claim.

The leak originated from an eight-second YouTube video posted by user Ali Almarzooqi, which showed the unboxing of what appeared to be a genuine Nintendo Switch 2 console. The video was viewed by IGN before being taken down due to a copyright strike from the anti-piracy firm Web Capio. The swift action taken to remove the video lends credence to the possibility that the console is indeed real.

According to the poster, the console cannot be fully verified until June 5, as it requires a launch day update to function:

Adding to the intrigue, another individual reached out to popular deals poster Wario64, claiming to possess a Nintendo Switch 2. When they attempted to play a game from the original Switch, they received a message prompting them to connect to the internet and update the system. While these could be elaborate fakes, the authenticity might soon be confirmed if either owner provides a full unboxing or displays the system message requiring an update.

Until June 5, the gaming community will have to rely on official updates from Nintendo to fully understand the Nintendo Switch 2 experience. So far, we've had hands-on experience with Mario Kart World on the new system, and recent announcements have included free performance upgrades for Switch 1 games, details on variable refresh rate support, and information about GameChat, which will require phone number verification. Despite pre-orders selling out rapidly last month, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser has assured fans that there will be sufficient stock to meet demand during the holiday season.
