Adapted from BOOM! Studios' graphic novels by Arash Amel, Butterfly promises "a character-driven spy thriller examining family ties within the dangerous world of international espionage."

The storyline follows David Jung (Kim), a former U.S. intelligence operative whose quiet life in South Korea collapses when his past decisions return to haunt him. Pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a ruthless operative ordered to eliminate him, David must confront Caddis - the shadowy organization pulling the strings.

"Butterfly fulfills my long-held vision to merge American and Korean storytelling traditions," Kim shared. "Working with this incredible creative team across both cultures has been extraordinary. My deepest thanks to Ken Woodruff, BOOM! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and all who helped make this vision a reality."

Showrunner Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) co-created the series with novelist Steph Cha. The international cast features Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, with special appearances by Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.

Executive producers include Woodruff, Cha, Kim, John Cheng (3AD), Stephen Christy and Ross Richie (BOOM! Studios), and Arash Amel (The Amel Company).
