TouchArcade Rating:
Mobile game updates often improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an unwelcome change: mandatory online DRM. This DRM verifies your purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Refusal results in game closure. While this takes only a few seconds with an internet connection, it completely removes the offline playability previously enjoyed. This is a significant drawback, rendering the games less convenient than before.
Pre-update testing confirmed offline functionality. Now, the online check is unavoidable. While some players may not mind, the addition of this always-on DRM to already-purchased titles is concerning. Ideally, Capcom would implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update unfortunately impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium mobile ports.
