Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino is committed to completing the current project, which was initially conceived as a third major JRPG franchise alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. His aim is for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already developing their next game. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a significant success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on launch.
Metaphor: ReFantazio boasts a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961, surpassing the launch numbers of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
