Earlier this month, Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, was reported to be joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. According to Deadline, Sink, who debuted in the 2016 film Chuck, will feature in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, set to begin filming later this year and slated for release on July 31, 2026.
When approached by Deadline, both Marvel and Sony declined to comment. However, Deadline speculated that Sink might portray either the X-Men character Jean Grey or another iconic redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe.
Following this, IGN explored various Marvel characters that Sadie Sink could potentially play in Spider-Man 4 and other future MCU projects.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sink remained elusive about the Jean Grey rumors, calling them "awesome" but stating, "This is news to me." When pressed about any discussions with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige or other Marvel representatives regarding Jean Grey, she responded, "No. I have nothing to say about this." She praised the Jean Grey character as "great" and expressed excitement about the prospect of joining the MCU, saying, "I think that’s super exciting."
Late last year, Kevin Feige hinted at the integration of X-Men characters into the MCU's upcoming films. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige mentioned that fans would soon see "some X-Men players that you might recognize" in the next few MCU movies. He also noted that the storyline leading to Secret Wars would usher in a "new age of mutants and of the X-Men."
Feige further elaborated on the future of the MCU, stating that the X-Men would play a significant role post-Secret Wars. He reminisced about the buildup to Avengers: Endgame and emphasized that the narrative path to Secret Wars is already well-planned, with the X-Men integral to the MCU's future.
While the immediate future might see mutant characters appearing in Phase 6 movies like Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Avengers: Secret Wars, the introduction of Storm in What If...? Season 3 marks the first mutant character in the wider MCU. Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, increasing speculation that one of these films will focus on the X-Men.
