The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Is Here, And It's Super Thin

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge at its May Unpacked event, marking a new addition to its top-tier smartphone lineup. Although it shares many similarities with the earlier-launched Galaxy S25 from 2025, the Galaxy S25 Edge introduces a thinner design, giving it a distinctive edge.

In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and boasts a similar 200MP camera. The key difference lies in its chassis, which has been slimmed down to a mere 5.8mm from the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This reduction in thickness also results in a lighter weight of just 163g.

The phone features the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found in the Samsung Galaxy S25, despite sharing almost identical specs with the slightly larger 6.9-inch Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Given its thin and large profile, durability becomes a significant concern. Samsung addresses this by upgrading to Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, claimed to be more durable than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The primary concern, however, is its resilience when subjected to everyday pressures, such as sitting on it in a pocket—raising questions about the potential for a new "bendgate" scenario.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also incorporates the same suite of "Mobile AI" tools that were introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 in the previous year and enhanced throughout 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset enables substantial AI processing to be performed locally on the device, enhancing privacy. However, many AI applications still depend on cloud services. Samsung offers unique features like summarizing notifications and news articles, which may appeal to users interested in these functionalities.

Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, starting at $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB model. The phone is available in three color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.

Samsung emphasizes the durability of this slim phone, and consumers will be eager to see if these claims hold up in real-world use.
