PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing reflex-based movement or fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad controls. Similarly, many genres, especially those originating on consoles, translate well to controllers on PC.
While most PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain titles are enhanced by a controller's intuitive design. This is particularly true for console-originating franchises that have transitioned to the PC platform.
This list has been updated (January 7, 2025) to reflect recent releases. While many 2024 titles, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force, are better suited to keyboard and mouse, some exceptions exist. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, for example, offers a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, though the difference is minimal.
Several upcoming PC game releases show promise for controller-centric gameplay:
A 2024 Soulslike game has also been added to this list (see below).
