The year is 2025, and Sony PlayStation has officially unveiled its first dedicated wireless fight stick for the PS5 and PC.
According to Edwin Foo, VP of Product Development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the controller—internally codenamed Project Defiant—is designed to offer players "greater freedom to enjoy their preferred fighting games."
Sony guarantees ultra-low latency performance over a wireless connection with the PS5 or PC, while also providing a wired play option. This is a critical feature for fighting game enthusiasts who demand instant and precise input recognition for complex combos.
The fight stick also features an ergonomic design and a high-quality, custom-designed digital stick from Sony. It includes tool-free interchangeable restrictor gates, allowing players to switch between square, circular, or octagonal gates. Unused gates can be stored neatly in the controller's built-in compartment. The package even comes with a convenient sling carry case.
However, the pricing and specific launch date remain unconfirmed. For now, Sony has only committed to a general 2026 release window.
The introduction of Sony's fight stick is particularly timely, given the company's work on 'Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls'—a new 4v4 Marvel fighting game developed by Arc System Works, the studio behind the Guilty Gear series. This game is also slated for a 2026 release, suggesting a potential coordinated launch for both the hardware and the title.
Sony ignited the summer gaming reveal season with an impressive showcase, presenting a diverse array of new titles to build excitement ahead of Summer Games Fest Week. Here is the full announcement list from last night's PlayStation State of Play 2025, which included reveals for 007 First Light, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and the release date for Silent Hill f.
