Disney's surprising decision to delay Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars means fans will wait longer for Earth's mightiest heroes to reunite on screen.
Avengers: Doomsday has been pushed to December 18, 2026 (a seven-month delay), while Secret Wars now arrives on December 17, 2027. Amid these changes, discussions about Spider-Man's future have dominated fan conversations.
Tom Holland's Peter Parker remains scheduled to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026. The film will continue Peter's story after No Way Home, where the world forgot his secret identity.
Before Disney's schedule changes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would have followed Avengers: Doomsday, serving as connective tissue between the two Avengers films. Reports suggested Disney and Sony were developing another multiverse-spanning adventure fitting the current MCU era.
Now arriving before both Avengers films, Brand New Day (which hasn't started filming) could offer a more grounded, street-level Spider-Man story - something many fans welcome.
Previously, Doomsday likely would have ended on an Infinity War-style cliffhanger, forcing Brand New Day to either acknowledge those events or awkwardly ignore them. The schedule shift eliminates this narrative challenge.
"This completely changes Spider-Man 4's context," one Reddit user noted about the new release order. "We assumed it had to bridge both Avengers films timeline-wise."
Another fan speculated: "If Brand New Day isn't delayed, it probably won't be a multiverse battle movie," referencing the original Secret Wars comic storyline.

Many fans prefer seeing Spider-Man swinging through New York rather than fighting cosmic battles. The delay appears beneficial for character-focused storytelling.
"Best Spider-Man 4 news we've gotten," wrote one commenter. Another added: "Releasing before Doomsday allows for a grounded story - matching recent casting rumors about street-level villains."
Recent reports suggest Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) has joined the cast, possibly playing Miles Morales' mother. The character's animated success makes a live-action debut increasingly likely.
Yesterday's schedule revisions also removed an untitled Marvel film slated for February 13, 2026. Many believe this slot was meant for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.
Other Marvel dates now labeled "Untitled Disney" suggest a lighter MCU release schedule. 2025 will see The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, plus Disney+ shows Ironheart, Wonder-Man, and the currently filming Vision Quest starring Paul Bettany.
