Star Wars Hunters publisher Zynga has announced the game's complete shutdown just nine months post-launch, with plans for a Steam PC version officially canceled.

The free-to-play team battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion launched on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review awarded it a 7/10, noting: "Star Wars: Hunters delivers fun PvP action reminiscent of a Death Star celebration - entertaining in bursts, but unlikely to become your permanent hangout."

The review proved prophetic as Zynga stated that after "careful evaluation," April 15 will bring the final update across platforms, with servers remaining online until October 1, 2025.

"We recognize this announcement may disappoint players," Zynga continued. "This decision wasn't made lightly. We're deeply grateful for your passionate support and will maintain transparency throughout this transition."

Here's the shutdown timeline: Season 5 will extend three weeks starting March 25. Zynga will recycle past events and shop bundles while prolonging the Ranked Season for players chasing Kyber 1 rank.

The April 15 final update will introduce Tuya as a free Support Hunter alongside other complimentary content, while disabling all purchases. Players can continue competing in Ranked Mode with all battlefields remaining available.

October 1 marks the definitive server shutdown, ending Star Wars: Hunters' availability. Notably absent from the announcement is the planned Steam PC version, whose store page now states it's "no longer available."

Take-Two subsidiary Zynga, famous for mobile titles like FarmVille and Words With Friends, ventured into console publishing with Hunters. The PC version would have marked another first for the company.

"Following Hunters' mobile and Switch success, we're thrilled to expand to PC," Zynga's Yaron Leyvan declared last November. "This fulfills fan requests while marking a publishing milestone for our studio."

Other Star Wars gaming projects remain in development, including Respawn's upcoming Jedi trilogy installment and Bit Reactor's 2025 Celebration-revealed tactical title.
