As the excitement builds for the upcoming PC release of Stellar Blade, developer SHIFT UP has proactively addressed fan concerns regarding Digital Rights Management (DRM) and region lock issues. Dive deeper into how these aspects will influence your gaming experience and what measures are being taken to ensure a smooth launch.
With Stellar Blade gearing up for its PC debut, SHIFT UP took to Twitter (now known as X) on May 17 to clarify the use of Denuvo as their DRM solution. They stated, "DRM has been hard tuned to maintain the same average frame rate, with even higher minimum frames in some cases." This addresses the common critique that Denuvo can impact game performance negatively.
DRM, or Digital Rights Management, serves as an anti-tamper technology aimed at preventing unauthorized copying and distribution, thus tackling piracy. Despite the controversy surrounding Denuvo, SHIFT UP's performance tests showed negligible differences in frame rates, whether the DRM was active or not. These tests included average, minimum, maximum, 1% low, and 0.1% low frame rates.

A significant highlight from SHIFT UP's announcement is the game's full support for mods, a feature often restricted in DRM-protected titles. The community has praised the studio for their transparency, though many fans still hope for a version without Denuvo to enhance accessibility.

Another pivotal concern for Stellar Blade's PC release involves region locking tied to the PlayStation Network (PSN). Although the game does not mandate a PSN connection, some regions without PSN support will face access restrictions. Currently, PSN does not support over 130 countries worldwide.
SHIFT UP is actively engaging with the game's publisher to address these region lock issues, stating, "We are closely discussing the region lock issue with the publisher and are doing our BEST to resolve most of it as soon as possible." They also assure that both PC and PS5 versions will have identical content, ensuring "early buyers are never at a disadvantage through future updates."
While fans appreciate SHIFT UP's efforts to tackle these challenges, there remains a desire for a DRM-free and unrestricted experience. Stellar Blade is slated to launch on PC via Steam on June 11. Keep an eye on our updates for the latest developments on this highly anticipated title!
