Strauss Zelnick on GTA 6 Delay as Shares Slip

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed shareholder concerns following GTA 6's delayed launch. Earlier today, Rockstar announced a major postponement for what's anticipated to be the most significant entertainment release in history. Originally slated for fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will now arrive on May 26, 2026 – shifting from Take-Two's 2026 to 2027 fiscal year.

Following the announcement, Take-Two's stock dropped 7.98% in early trading. The company reassured investors by maintaining projected growth forecasts, expecting record Net Bookings (revenue) for both fiscal 2026 and 2027.

"We fully support Rockstar's decision to extend development for Grand Theft Auto VI," Zelnick stated. "This will ensure the game delivers an unparalleled, groundbreaking experience that surpasses player expectations. While we recognize the immense global anticipation, our commitment to quality remains unwavering. Our robust pipeline positions us for sustained business growth and increased shareholder value."

With GTA 6's massive expected revenue now deferred, what does Take-Two's near-term portfolio offer? Beyond Rockstar, the company owns 2K Games and 2K Sports. Upcoming releases include Gearbox's Borderlands 4 (September 2025), Mafia: The Old Country, and NBA 2K26. Future projects include the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine's Judas.

However, none of these can match the financial impact of a GTA release. While fans weren't entirely surprised by the delay, many had hoped for fresh promotional material to ease the disappointment.
