This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a digital adaptation of the popular card game. The guide is part of a larger directory on Pokémon TCG Pocket strategies and deck building.

Quick Links

Pokémon TCG Pocket faithfully recreates the Paralyzed status effect, albeit with minor adjustments. This guide details the mechanics, cures, and strategies surrounding this powerful condition.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a turn, preventing attacks and retreats. The effect automatically ends before the opponent's next turn.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies for recovery.

Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards to directly counter Paralysis. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.

Which Cards Paralyze?

Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno inflict Paralysis in Genetic Apex, each relying on a coin flip. This inherent randomness limits its deck-building potential.

How to Recover from Paralyzed?

Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:

  1. Time: The effect automatically ends after one turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly removes Paralysis.
  3. Retreat: Retreating removes the status effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot be Paralyzed). Cards like Koga can force retreats.
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers specific Paralysis counterplay (for Weezing or Muk).

What is the Best Paralyze Deck?

Paralysis alone is unreliable. Combining it with Asleep, such as with an Articuno & Frosmoth deck, enhances its effectiveness. This strategy utilizes Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to apply both conditions.
