What's next for Boba Fett? The iconic Star Wars character last appeared in his Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett, which concluded in February 2022. The show sparked mixed reactions, with some fans believing it softened the legendary bounty hunter's edge. Is this the end for Boba Fett?
More than three years later, prospects for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 remain dim. Lucasfilm has not confirmed a second season, and the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film seems the most likely avenue for Boba Fett’s live-action return. As for The Mandalorian Season 4, Lucasfilm has yet to provide clarity, though a cameo from Boba Fett could be possible.
The future of Boba Fett and actor Temuera Morrison remains uncertain, with Morrison’s recent remarks reinforcing this ambiguity.
In a Collider interview promoting his new film, Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), the 64-year-old New Zealand actor expressed sadness over not reprising Boba Fett since the series ended.
“What’s happened to The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where is it? I see they’re working on Ahsoka Season 2, and I’m wondering, ‘Where’s my season?’”
Per Collider, Morrison shared that he pitched Lucasfilm on including Boba Fett in Ahsoka Season 2, jokingly asking, “Can I play Rex and take off his helmet?” He noted his role extends beyond Boba Fett, as he portrays all clones derived from the character.
Morrison recently crossed paths with Star Wars creators Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, reminding them of Boba Fett’s existence. Their response was vague: “They didn’t say much, just left it at that.”
This left Morrison feeling like “I’m being saved for later, like I’ll be even better when the time comes.” He likened himself to “a jar of peaches preserved on grandma’s shelf.”

“That’s how I see it,” he added. “I’m preserved on the shelf, ready to be savored later.”
Morrison might be hinting at a return, though Lucasfilm’s secrecy is well-known—Rosario Dawson, for instance, was unaware of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker cameo in The Mandalorian until filming. Still, it appears no concrete plans exist for Boba Fett’s return.
Last year, at Fan Expo Chicago’s From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters panel, Morrison suggested The Book of Boba Fett’s lukewarm reception may have stalled the character’s return in The Mandalorian & Grogu. He noted Disney hasn’t approached him for the film or a second season of his show.
The series, which followed Boba Fett’s escape from the Sarlacc Pit and doubled as a partial season of The Mandalorian, was among the least popular Star Wars shows. “The show’s reception likely affected the character’s future,” Morrison said in August 2024. Whether anything has changed since remains unclear.
Morrison first portrayed Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones, later returning as Jango’s son and clone, Boba Fett. He’s voiced a strong desire to return, suggesting he deserves a share of The Mandalorian’s spotlight, just as The Mandalorian featured prominently in his series.
