Emmy nominations were announced yesterday, sparking intense discussions among fans about which shows and actors earned recognition and which were overlooked. Andor creator Tony Gilroy shared his thoughts on the notable absences from his series’ nomination list.
“Many performances deserved recognition,” Gilroy told Deadline about his Disney+ series. “Diego Luna and Genevieve O’Reilly stand out, along with several others.”
For Gilroy, the work of Luna and O’Reilly forms the heart of the show, bringing vivid life to the character arcs crafted in the script — destined to achieve iconic status, regardless of awards.
“These aren’t just standout moments,” Gilroy said of the overlooked performances. “They’re profound, long-term character journeys built over 24 episodes. I’m certain these roles will be celebrated and analyzed for years to come.”
Andor secured 14 Emmy nominations this year, ranking third among Star Wars series, behind The Mandalorian’s first and second seasons with 15 and 24 nominations, respectively.
Luna portrays the series’ lead, Cassian Andor, while O’Reilly plays Mon Mothma, a role she first took on in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, though her scenes were cut. She reprised the character in 2016’s Rogue One, 2023’s Ahsoka, and voiced Mothma in 2017’s Star Wars Rebels.
Andor launched on Disney+ in September 2022, with its second and final season premiering in late April 2025 after nearly three years of production.
