The Rise of Ultron

Get ready for the arrival of Ultron in Marvel Rivals' Season 2.5 update. NetEase Games shared on their X (formerly Twitter) account on May 23 that Ultron will be playable starting May 30, following the season's maintenance.

According to Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 06, Ultron is classified as a Strategist, offering consistent healing to his allies. His unique primary weapon and the ability to fly set him apart, enabling new strategies for aerial lineups. His basic attacks deliver three low-damage bursts, followed by a potent high-damage attack.

Ultron's healing mechanism involves attaching a drone to allies, which can also overheal the targeted hero and nearby allies. His Ultimate ability not only deals damage but also heals allies within the targeted area.

The update also introduces Ultron's X-Tron skin, inspired by his takeover of Cerebro, and Groot's Norse Mythology-themed Yggroot skin. Both skins will be available post-maintenance, though pricing details and bundle information are yet to be disclosed by NetEase.

Season 2.5 Coming on May 30

Mark your calendars for May 30, as Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 will launch after a maintenance period of about 2-3 hours, starting at 2 AM PDT / 9 AM UTC. Here’s a handy timetable to help you plan:

The update includes balancing tweaks for several heroes. Captain America will see a reduction in health, while Doctor Strange gets a slight damage boost. Emma Frost's range will increase, among other changes, to address the current "dive meta" dominated by aggressive heroes like Iron Fist and Psylocke.

Season 2.5 also introduces the Arrako map, the sister-island to Krakoa, where Ultron retreated after his attack on Hellfire Gala. Players will team up with the living island Krakoa to rescue Arrako.

Additionally, the Cerebro Database season event returns, offering players a chance to earn the free Hawkeye – Binary Arrow costume. The event runs from May 30 at 9:00 AM UTC to June 27, rewarding players for completing various missions.

Team-Up Adjustments, New Experimental Mode, and More!

Season 2.5 will see the addition of six new team-ups, the removal of four, and other adjustments. Highlights include Rocket Network by Rocket Raccoon and Peni Parker, Stark Protocol by Iron Man and Ultron, and the fan-favorite Jeff-Nado by Jeff and Storm. Creative Director Guangguang noted that over 50% of the Team-Up abilities have changed since Season 0 and encouraged community feedback.

A new limited-time experimental mode, "Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol," will debut on June 6. In this mode, players can select their hero lineups, craft unique builds, and enhance their heroes’ traits to battle others. Guangguang likened it to auto-chess game modes like Teamfight Tactics and Hearthstone Battlegrounds, describing it as a "streamlined, strategic, numerical-based solo tactical play."

NetEase also announced that starting with Season 3, the duration of each season will be shortened from three months to two, as previously mentioned in Dev. Vision Vol. 05 on April 4. This change will also bring new hero releases monthly instead of two heroes per season.

Marvel Rivals continues to expand its roster and refine gameplay with Ultron's addition and numerous balance adjustments. The new experimental mode aims to attract a broader audience.
