In a surprising development for fans of Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ), two voice actors, Emeri Chase and Nicholas Thurkettle, discovered their replacements through the game's recent patch notes. This revelation comes amidst the ongoing conflict between the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the video game industry over the use of generative AI to replicate voice performances.

Developed by HoYoverse, the creators of Genshin Impact, ZZZ is not directly affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 25, 2024, as the game was already in development. However, voice actors have the option to decline new contracts in solidarity with the striking union members or if a SAG Interim Agreement is absent.

Emeri Chase, the voice behind Soldier 11, stated their replacement was due to their refusal to work without a SAG Interim Agreement during the strike, emphasizing the importance of AI protections for the future of the industry.
