Battlefield 6 does not support ray tracing, and the development team has confirmed there are no plans to introduce the feature at any point.
Although ray tracing was conspicuously absent during the Battlefield 6 open beta tests, it was unclear whether this omission was due to the game's beta status or a deliberate design decision. We now know it was the latter.
While appreciated in some titles, the more natural lighting simulation of ray tracing can significantly strain your PC or console's hardware. For this reason, the competitive shooter will not include the feature. Christian Buhl, studio technical director at Ripple Effect—one of the studios developing Battlefield 6—told Comicbook that while the PC version will offer over 600 different options in its settings menu, "ray tracing will not be one of them, and there are no plans to add it to the game in the near future."
“We will not have ray tracing at launch, nor do we have any near-term plans for it,” Buhl stated. “This decision stemmed from our commitment to prioritizing performance. We wanted to ensure all our development resources focused on optimizing the game as much as possible for standard settings and the majority of players.
"We made this choice relatively early in development—to forgo ray tracing—primarily so we could concentrate on delivering a smooth, high-performance experience for everyone."
While most players likely favor performance over graphics in multiplayer modes, this news may disappoint those who hoped to see ray tracing in Battlefield 6's upcoming single-player campaign.
Earlier today, a nine-minute leaked video of Battlefield 6's battle royale mode surfaced online. The footage not only provides a solid preview of the mode but also reveals several previously unknown gameplay mechanics, including swimming, one of the usable gadgets, and the scale of its "massive map."
Battlefield 6 launches on October 7. We have been thoroughly enjoying our time with the game so far, noting in our Battlefield 6 review-in-progress: "Even in its beta state, Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be the most entertaining shooter I've played this year."
