11 years after its release, Far Cry 4 now runs at a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) on PlayStation 5.
As discovered by user gael_74 and shared on the Far Cry 4 subreddit, patch notes for Version 1.08 confirm the addition of "60 FPS support on PS5 console."
If you’ve never had the chance to experience it before, this performance boost makes now an ideal time to dive into Far Cry 4. The game features one of the most memorable antagonists in the series, Pagan Min, and immerses players in a massive, vibrant open world. Set against the vertical terrain of the Himalayas, the environment is more than just scenic—it's an interactive playground designed for combat, exploration, and adventure.
"Far Cry 4 has weak characters, but its campaign, co-op, and competitive multiplayer offer incredibly fun freedom," noted IGN in its 8.5/10 "Great" review.

Far Cry 4 joins a growing list of Ubisoft’s PS4-era titles that have received performance upgrades for newer hardware, including Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Origins. Naturally, this has sparked hopes among fans in the subreddit that similar updates could be on the way for beloved entries like Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 3.
However, some players feel the update came just a little too late: “You are kidding right. I just platinumed the game, like, three days ago,” one disappointed user lamented.
In other Ubisoft news, the company recently established a new subsidiary focused on expanding its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese tech giant Tencent.
This announcement followed shortly after Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed Shadows had surpassed 3 million players. The publisher faced significant challenges leading up to the game’s launch, including high-profile project cancellations, layoffs, studio closures, and declining stock prices. With investor confidence at stake, the success of Shadows is critical.
Earlier today, Ubisoft also made a quiet update to another older title—adding Steam Achievements to the 12-year-old Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
