Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: Console and PC Performance Deep Dive
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) promises strong performance across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Extensive testing reveals impressive results across various settings. Let's explore the performance details for each platform.
CryEngine's Photorealistic Prowess
KCD2 leverages CryEngine, known for its performance-oriented, albeit older-school, rendering techniques. While employing less complex shaders and lighting compared to newer engines, CryEngine's focus on optimization delivers photorealistic visuals. This is achieved through the use of physically based materials and SVOGI (sparse voxel octree global illumination), resulting in realistic light interactions and impressive ambient occlusion.
Console Performance Modes
PS5 and Xbox Series X offer two modes:
Xbox Series S exclusively offers Fidelity Mode. The PS5 Pro provides a single, high-performance mode at 60fps and 1296p, upscaled to 4K using PSSR. The PS5 Pro mode boasts superior visuals to the other console options.
PC Performance and Scalability
The PC version offers extensive customization. Upscaling is optional, with support for FSR and DLSS. However, XeSS, sharpening, and frame generation are absent. Even with CryEngine's optimization, high settings at 4K will demand powerful hardware. Fortunately, five quality presets (Low, Medium, High, Ultra, Experimental) allow players to tailor the experience to their system's capabilities. Warhorse Studios provides a detailed system requirements guide to assist players in optimizing their setup.
