Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Spider-Man 2's PC port, despite promising initial performance benchmarks, has received a mixed reception on Steam due to widespread technical problems. Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive, with numerous users reporting frequent crashes.

One RTX 4090 user, running the latest Nvidia drivers, experienced consistent crashes. Other players described the game as "completely unplayable," citing crashes every five minutes. Several reviewers urged potential buyers to wait for stability patches, highlighting issues such as: incomplete lighting in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in certain scenes, significant audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and general performance instability. Many have already requested refunds.

The primary problem seems to be frequent graphics driver crashes, even on high-end PCs. A common error message points to outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or game-related errors.

Further complaints include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing, lengthy loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio glitches. Some players reported performance stutters escalating into crashes after extended gameplay sessions, suggesting a potential memory leak.

Nixxes, the porting studio, acknowledged the issues on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides and requesting logs and crash dumps for faster problem resolution. They also addressed a bug affecting photo-op missions, advising users to lower graphics settings or resolution if their frame rate drops below 20 FPS.
