Claims of modders uncovering a hidden multiplayer mode in Stellar Blade are misleading, according to the player who shared a viral split-screen gameplay video on social media.
Recent reports suggested that Stellar Blade developer Shift Up embedded a dormant multiplayer mode in the game, but the modder who posted a two-player gameplay clip on Discord clarified otherwise.
"I woke up to my Discord clips being shared out of context. I avoided posting them on X/Twitter for a reason," PhantomSomnus wrote on X/Twitter. They explained that "split-screen mode is a feature of Unreal Engine, not created by [Stellar Blade developer] Shift Up."
PhantomSomnus used Unreal Engine’s native local multiplayer support to load a second Eve into the game, not a feature developed by Shift Up. "I tested split-screen to see if it would work, but it didn’t," PhantomSomnus shared on Reddit.

"There are hints of multiplayer in the game files," PhantomSomnus noted, "but they’re limited to online functionality." A previous post of theirs includes a screenshot showing remnants of an "old, scrapped PVP multiplayer mode" that no longer functions, though they found "some leftover menus."
Is a multiplayer update or mod for Stellar Blade likely? "Highly improbable," PhantomSomnus stated.
The PC version of Stellar Blade launches on Steam June 11, featuring PC-specific enhancements like Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 upscaling, unlocked framerate, Japanese and Chinese voiceovers, ultrawide support, high-resolution textures, and DualSense haptic feedback. Initially region-locked in over 100 countries, it’s now available for pre-order in "over 250 regions."
IGN’s Stellar Blade review scored it 7/10, noting: "Stellar Blade excels in action but is held back by weak characters, a dull story, and frustrating RPG elements, keeping it from joining the genre’s elite."
