In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s Siege Mode, players battle waves of Thousand Sons and Tyranid enemies, striving to climb the ranks. Yet, persistent connection issues and bugs often stall progress, with many finding Chaos fights less engaging than Tyranid encounters.
Siege Mode pits players against both Space Marine 2 factions: the Thousand Sons, a traitor legion, and the relentless, insect-like Tyranids. There’s no option to face just one faction, as waves alternate between the two.
For some Space Marine 2 players, Tyranids offer a more thrilling experience than Chaos. The Tyranids’ swarm-like nature fills the screen with a mix of smaller foes and formidable heavy-hitters. Wielding a Power Sword to slice through alien hordes, parrying attacks for clean counters, or smashing Tyranids with a Power Fist delivers visceral satisfaction.
Conversely, the Thousand Sons pose a more tactical challenge. Facing fellow Space Marines and their daemonic allies, especially when Terminators unleash missile barrages, can feel grueling. Unlike the fast-paced Tyranid battles, Chaos fights demand precision, resembling a tougher, Elden Ring-style experience.
This contrast sharpens at higher difficulties. On easier settings, both factions feel similar, but at tougher levels—required for progression—Chaos becomes a formidable ordeal, while Tyranids remain manageable.
It’s not just about difficulty; Tyranids capture the chaotic swarm essence from Warhammer lore and tabletop, while the Thousand Sons embody their warp-infused traitor identity. Both factions are designed to feel distinct, as intended.

Since the game’s record-breaking launch in September 2024, Space Marine 2’s PvE Operations mode has seen players consistently favor Tyranids. Some even exit Siege Mode when Chaos waves appear, voicing their preference online.
“Can we play Siege Mode with only Tyranids?” asked Think_Fan_5943 on the Space Marine subreddit. “Chaos fights feel forced and frustrating, so I usually quit when they show up. We can pick Tyranid-only missions elsewhere, so why not in Siege Mode?”
A Tyranid-only Siege Mode seems unlikely from Saber Interactive, as it could shrink the Chaos matchmaking pool, given the clear preference for Tyranids. Still, the Tyranid-Chaos debate fuels excitement for Space Marine 3’s confirmed factions.
What challenges might Necrons bring to the Ultramarines? Could another traitor legion offer a fresh dynamic? Imagine facing the Death Guard, battling disease alongside bolter fire. Or could the Orks, from Space Marine 1, return as a fan-favorite foe?
For now, players must tackle both Tyranids and Chaos in Siege Mode. Looking forward, Space Marine 2’s upcoming content excites fans. Patch 9 focuses on balance tweaks, while Patch 10 introduces Chaos vs. Chaos PvP, a Power Axe weapon, and a Techmarine class. Explore all Space Marine 2 Patch 10 details here.
