Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), launched Battlefield Labs on February 3, 2025 – a revolutionary platform designed to foster collaboration between players and developers in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise. This initiative marks a significant step towards more direct community involvement in game development.
A New Era of Player Influence
The announcement highlights a crucial development phase for the upcoming Battlefield title, emphasizing the unprecedented value of community feedback. Selected players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs, providing hands-on testing of new features and mechanics. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, stated, "This game has immense potential. Being in pre-alpha, now's the time to test the experiences our teams have built." He further emphasized Battlefield Labs' crucial role in achieving this goal.
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. Furthermore, plans are in place to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield installments. The studio comprises DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion, bringing together a wealth of experience and expertise.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will focus on key aspects of the upcoming game. Players will test core combat, destruction, weapon balance, vehicle performance, gadget functionality, and how these elements integrate within maps, game modes (including Conquest and Breakthrough), and squad dynamics.
Conquest, a large-scale mode centered around capturing control points, utilizes a ticket system where losing tickets leads to defeat. Breakthrough, conversely, features attackers and defenders vying for sector control, with a similar ticket system but with additional ticket rewards for successful sector captures.
Refinement of the class system is another key area for player feedback. While confident in their progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the immense value of community input in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
