Dune: Awakening experienced a brief downtime earlier today as Funcom rolled out a hotfix aimed at enhancing server stability and resolving several issues that emerged following the game’s "head start" launch for select players on June 5.
The primary focus of the update was improving server performance—though no specific technical details were provided. Additionally, a new pop-up notification has been implemented: when players select the "Private" tab in the server browser, they’ll now be clearly informed that these servers are externally managed. (For a full breakdown of what’s included—and what’s not—when renting a private server, we’ve got all the details you need).
Here’s a look at the additional fixes included in the patch:Funcom noted that while some fixes are applied immediately upon deployment, others may require scheduled downtime. Players are advised to monitor in-game service announcements for updates.
While we haven’t published a full review of Dune: Awakening yet, we did spend significant time exploring the world during the closed beta. "As a longtime fan of Dune, it feels incredibly rewarding to step into and learn more about a universe I deeply admire. Funcom has poured immense effort into worldbuilding and lore, even as they’ve taken creative liberties by setting Awakening in a parallel canon distinct from the original books and films," we noted in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview.
"Small, thoughtful details have a significant impact on gameplay. Without spoiling anything, this level of care extends across every facet of the world—from the factions you encounter to the characters you meet—making it a rich experience for any Dune enthusiast."
As for player response, the survival MMO hasn’t officially launched, but it’s already making waves. On Steam, it has already reached a peak of nearly 100,000 concurrent players.
