The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has taken the gaming world by storm, achieving remarkable milestones just one week after its release on April 22, 2025. With an impressive peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam alone, the game's success is undeniable. But the excitement doesn't stop there; Oblivion Remastered has also secured the position of the third best-selling game of 2025 in the U.S. by dollar sales, trailing only behind Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. This achievement is particularly notable given that the game is also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and through Microsoft's Game Pass, as reported by Circana’s Mat Piscatella.

The remastered version, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, brings a host of visual and feature enhancements. Running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, the game boasts significant improvements in leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. Fans have also enjoyed new dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These changes have led some to argue that Oblivion Remastered is more akin to a remake. However, Bethesda has clarified its decision to categorize the game as a remaster.

With the success of Oblivion Remastered, speculation about future remasters from Bethesda is rife, with many believing that either Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas could be next in line. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, has suggested that a remastered version would likely see significant improvements in gun combat, aligning it more closely with the advancements made in Fallout 4. Nesmith praised the work done on Fallout 4's combat system, noting that it would be beneficial to see similar enhancements in a Fallout 3 Remastered.

Nesmith emphasized that Oblivion Remastered wasn't merely updated to match the 2011 version of Skyrim but has been elevated to a level that surpasses even the most recent graphics updates in Skyrim. He has gone so far as to call it "Oblivion 2.0," highlighting the extensive overhaul and improvements made to the game.

As Bethesda continues to expand its portfolio, with projects like The Elder Scrolls VI and potential expansions for Starfield on the horizon, alongside ongoing work on Fallout 76 and the upcoming second season of the Fallout TV show set in New Vegas, fans have much to look forward to.
