A month after its release, only a small fraction of players have completed the main questline in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This isn't surprising for a game of its caliber, as fans are deeply engaged with the myriad of other activities the game offers.

As an avid player myself, I've been immersed in Oblivion Remastered since its unexpected release on April 22. After escaping the sewers and handing over the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory, I've deliberately avoided the main questline, opting instead to join the Fighters Guild, explore the vast landscapes of Cyrodiil, and tackle numerous side quests. I've even attempted to venture beyond the game's boundaries, inspired by another player's adventurous spirit.

Why the detour? The side quests in Oblivion are not only engaging but also allow me to sidestep the more challenging segments of the main quest, like the daunting siege of Kvatch, while keeping my character's level in check.

PlayI plan to continue savoring *Oblivion* until I'm ready to dive back into the main storyline. With a Bethesda game like this, there's no wrong way to play. The freedom to explore and engage with the world at my own pace is precisely what makes these games so captivating.

It seems I'm not alone in this approach. Reddit user MrCrispyFriedChicken humorously remarked, "I'm BUSY doing OTHER STUFF like hunting for SLAUGHTERFISH in Lake Rumare," echoing the sentiment of many players. Roffear shared, "I spend 160 hours in already and Kvatch is still waiting for me," while Ellert0 confessed to a unique goal: "I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes the Oblivion gates so I purposefully don't finish the main quest until I've found all 60 gates in my world and closed them." PlayaHatinIG-88 added, "44 hours and an actual in-game year, and I haven't even been to Weynon Priory. Those poor Kvatch city guards never stood a chance."

At the time of writing, only 2.97% of Xbox players and 4.4% of Steam users had completed the main questline. The discrepancy might be due to Xbox's inclusion of Game Pass players, who may have tried the game briefly before moving on, whereas Steam users, having purchased the game, are more committed.

### Ranking the Best Races in Oblivion

Despite over 4 million players engaging with Oblivion Remastered, the completion rate remains low, a common phenomenon across the gaming industry. Even shorter games like Call of Duty see low completion rates, and many players don't stick around past the initial hours or tutorials.

The completion stats for Oblivion Remastered might also reflect the nostalgia factor. Many players, having already completed the main quest in the original game years ago, are more interested in exploring the enhanced visuals and new features. Some, like one creative player who spent seven hours arranging books for a Dominoes chain reaction, are finding new ways to enjoy the game.

Thaddeus122, nearing 100 hours of playtime, admitted to not completing three main quests but had successfully finished the Arena and Mages Guild quests. Their time was spent on "leveling, getting money for homes, closing all the Oblivion gates, the Nirnroot quest, a bunch of little quests," and notably, not using fast travel.
