Sony unveils Lumines Arise at State of Play June 2025

Sony surprised gamers by opening its State of Play June 2025 showcase with Lumines Arise, a new title from Tetris Effect creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi.

The game launches fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and PS VR2, with a demo planned for summer release. Watch the debut trailer below:

In PlayStation Blog details, Enhance Director Takashi Ishihara revealed Lumines Arise serves as a fully reimagined successor to the legendary PSP puzzle series that debuted two decades ago, featuring optional PS VR2 support.

"Lumines Arise isn't just another puzzle game—we're crafting an emotional experience," Ishihara explained. "The journey begins in darkness before transporting players through over thirty visually stunning stages, each designed to evoke powerful emotional reactions."

The director described diverse environments ranging from vibrant jungles and aquatic ecosystems to urban Tokyo landscapes and cosmic vistas—all enhanced by synesthesia-inducing visual effects.

At its core remains Lumines' signature gameplay: Players manipulate 2×2 blocks containing color patterns, attempting to create solid-colored squares before the Timeline sweeps across the playfield in rhythm with the soundtrack. Successful combos trigger satisfying erasures while progressive challenges demand strategic anticipation of the moving Timeline.

"You'll feel every action through DualSense feedback as the music envelops you," Ishihara continued. "When everything clicks, you achieve that magical flow state where the real world disappears—just you, the music, and puzzle solving bliss."
