Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo Controversial PSN Linking Requirement

Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This decision marks a significant departure from Sony's previous policy and opens the game's market to over 100 countries previously inaccessible due to PSN's limited regional support.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony funds and publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the company's earlier mandate for PSN linking on PC versions of PlayStation games sparked significant player backlash.

The removal of the PSN requirement for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was initially observed on its Steam page. While the page initially mentioned the requirement, SteamDB records show this was quickly removed. This makes Lost Soul Aside only the second Sony-published PC game to reverse this policy, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2.

This change is a welcome development for PC gamers in regions without PSN access. It also suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC releases. The poor PC performance of games requiring PSN linking, such as God of War Ragnarok, which saw significantly lower player counts than its predecessor, may have influenced this decision. While the exact reasons remain unclear, it's speculated that maximizing player reach and sales potential were key factors in Sony's decision to allow Lost Soul Aside to bypass the PSN linking requirement. This could indicate a more flexible approach to future PlayStation PC game releases.
